Types of Tooth Extractions
Tooth extractions can vary in complexity based on the tooth’s position, condition, and how many teeth need to be removed. At Dumas Family Dental, our skilled team offers several types of extractions, always prioritizing your comfort and long-term oral health.
Simple Extractions
A simple extraction is performed when the tooth is visible above the gum line and can be easily removed. This is a common procedure for decayed, damaged, or loosened teeth. It’s usually done quickly and under local anesthesia.
Surgical Extractions
When a tooth is impacted (trapped beneath the gums), broken at the root, or otherwise difficult to access, a surgical tooth extraction may be needed. This involves making a small incision in the gum to remove the tooth and sometimes surrounding bone. Surgical extractions are commonly required for wisdom teeth or severely damaged molars.
Wisdom Tooth Extractions
Wisdom teeth often cause pain, swelling, crowding, or become impacted. Depending on your case, we may recommend removing one or all of your wisdom teeth. We use digital imaging to plan your extraction and minimize discomfort during recovery.
Multi-Tooth Extractions
In some cases, a multi-tooth extraction may be necessary during a single visit. This is often necessary due to advanced gum disease, widespread decay, or preparation for dentures or full-mouth reconstruction. Our Dumas dentists, Dr. Lawand and Dr. Ghanim, take great care to ensure your comfort throughout the process, offering sedation options and a personalized treatment plan to support your recovery and tooth replacement options.
No matter the type of extraction, our compassionate team will walk you through every step and provide detailed aftercare to promote fast, healthy healing.
